The hottest trends expected at the upcoming London Fashion Week are: Bermuda shorts, bomber jackets, graphic blooms and whistleblowers.
This September, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will make his modeling debut from the comfort of his very own home at the Ecuadorian embassy in Knightsbridge, London. Assange has been hiding out at the embassy for the past two years, in an attempt to avoid extradition to Sweden. He made a LOT of powerful enemies in 2010, when WikiLeaks published vast archives of classified files from governments across the world.
In a move that no one saw coming, Ben Westwood, son of Vivienne Westwood, decided that Assange would be perfect for his upcoming runway show at London Fashion week. Both Ben and Vivienne Westwood have previously been public supporters of Assange’s cause. As a result, Ben wanted to remind the public that while we’ve all moved on with our lives, Assange hasn’t. "Julian’s been in the embassy for two years and it’s important that he doesn’t slip into obscurity," he said. "I want to highlight Julian Assange’s plight. What happened to him is totally unfair.”
Not only does Assange have a rebellious ‘tude, he also has that ‘combat beret look’ that Ben Westwood so desires. Apparently, some of the clothes in the collection were actually inspired by the man himself. Ben has also promised a garment adorned in a ‘Julian Assange print’. Perhaps it will be something similar to the ‘I’m Julian Assange’ t-shirt seen on Vivienne Westwood in 2012.
Assange will be supported by a motley crew models or as Ben likes to call them, ‘outcasts.’ Keep your eyes peeled to see Assange stroll, shimmy and shake his way down the catwalk later this year.
