Pussy Riot Strikes Again

Pussy Riot Strikes Again

26th February 2014 // By Jasmine S. // Politics

Now, as if Russia wasn’t already in enough trouble with the world about their anti-gay laws, wait ‘til you hear what happened to Pussy Riot. The feminist punk rock group’s most recent performance was in front of the Sochi Olympic sign; This little stunt came at the cost of being pepper sprayed, beaten, and whipped. Not only that, but they’ve been arrested by Russian police for the second time in two weeks.

The members of Pussy Riot consist of roughly 11 women who film and edit videos of their performances to upload online. Prominent members, Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alyokhina, have appeared in numerous overseas interviews and even spoke at the Amnesty International Concert in Brooklyn.

Their hits include, ‘Putin Piss Off’, ‘Mother of God Drive Putin Away’ and their latest single, ‘Putin Will Teach You How To Love The Motherland’. Now, Putin isn’t the type of guy who listens to punk rock, so off to jail these women went. They have served nearly 2 years in prison since 2012, but once they’re out, they’ll do something to get back in. They will never stop being human rights activists. They want a brighter future for Russia, and they think Putin is driving it to the ground.
